Whether it’s a burst pipe, clogged toilet, or leaky sink, no plumbing problem is easy to fix. If you’d rather avoid putting your plumber on speed dial, here are a few ways to take better care of your plumbing system and keep issues to a minimum:

Plumber

  • Never dump oil or grease down your kitchen sink. As a plumber, a ton of the problems we deal with involve homeowners who have dumped all kinds of things down their kitchen sink. Instead of letting cooking oil down the drain, put used oils into a container and throw them out with the trash after they harden.
  • Never ignore a plumbing problem. When a plumbing issue pops up, it’s not going to magically disappear. Instead, it will probably get worse over time. As your plumber, we can’t stress enough how important it is to give us a call at the first sign of a problem.
  • Give your water heater some attention. You probably don’t pay much attention to your water heater since it lives down in your basement or tucked away in a closet. To keep your water heater working like it should, flush it once a year and check the anode on an annual basis to make sure it hasn’t rusted over.
  • Think twice about plumbing DIY jobs. Even if you’re handy around the house, don’t feel like you have to handle every plumbing job on your own. Avoid disaster and give us a call if there’s something you don’t feel confident fixing.
